This series brings together international and local scholars who have been extensively carrying out practice-oriented research or implementation research in the relevant areas to share their expertise and offer advice.
In this session, Prof Jim Slotta from OISE, University of Toronto presented a decade of his research concerned with establishing and supporting communities of learners in K-12 and higher education classrooms. A model known as "Knowledge Community and Inquiry" (KCI) was developed to support the design of complex forms of collaborative and collective knowledge building and inquiry. The KCI model can serve as a productive resource for the design of online and hybrid courses such that students are engaged, connected with peers, and learning with a sense of collective identity.
