Why do we need the arts in the education of our children? How can engagement in the arts prepare the young generation emotionally to face complex social dynamics? How can the nurturance of artistic thinking benefit the growth of the unpredictable economy?
This talk presents evidences from actual research in Singapore and global school environments on how the arts and its processes should be allocated an active, central role in the education of future thinkers, leaders and educators. The speakers shared on the benefits of the arts in education and discussed how artistic thinking can nurture holistic dispositions needed for preparing a future-ready generation.
The studies that will be presented are based on the recently published book by Springer Artistic Thinking in the Schools: Towards Innovative Arts /in/ Education Research for Future-Ready Learners (Costes, Onishi, Ed., 2019). The speakers will share the works they authored and will offer rich discussion and commentaries on the larger issues pursued in the book.
