The Innovations in Teaching and Learning (iTL) Seminar 2025, held on 24 October 2025, brought together over 100 NIE educators, researchers, and industry partners to explore how technology and collaboration can transform learning. Organised by IN-Learning (Centre for Innovation in Learning, NIE NTU) in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the seminar was held under the theme: “Seeding Innovations, Scaling Impact: Transforming Education for the Future.”
In her opening address, Associate Professor Chua Bee Leng, NIE’s Chief Learning and Innovations Officer, highlighted how AI is reshaping teaching and learning globally and in Singapore. This was followed by Assistant Professor Tanmay Sinha (NIE), who called for a human-centred approach to AI in education, and Mr Richard Goh (AWS), who shared insights on how education–industry partnerships can drive authentic, technology-enabled learning experiences.
A lively panel discussion on “AI in Education: Driving Innovation through Academia–Government–Industry Partnerships” featured Mr Chia Hai Siang (MOE), Associate Professor Tan Seng Chee (NIE), and Mr Richard Goh (AWS), moderated by Professor Chen Wenli (NIE). The panellists explored the opportunities and responsibilities of integrating AI into learning environments, emphasising ethical design and cross-sector collaboration.
Building on these discussions, participants took part in an Innovation Jam facilitated by NIE faculty. Through collaborative dialogue, they seeded ideas for learning solutions using AWS’s PartyRock platform, focusing on four key themes: Learner-Centred Learning Design, Data-Informed Teaching and Learning, Assessment and Feedback, and Learning Spaces.
The seminar concluded with Innovations Scaled @ NIE, showcasing faculty-led projects such as AppleTree and Knowledge Forum. These projects demonstrated how ideas first seeded are growing into impactful innovations in teaching and learning. In his closing remarks, Mr Kristopher O’Brien, Divisional Director of Academic Computing and Information Services, NIE, reaffirmed the value of partnerships in driving educational innovation.
Through a day of sharing, dialogue and ideation, iTL 2025 truly embodied its theme of seeding innovations and scaling impact, fostering ideas that will continue to grow and transform the future of education.
