The New Education Normal (NEN) webinar series is spearheaded by the Office of Education Research at National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
This series brings together international and local scholars who have been extensively carrying out practice-oriented research or implementation research in the relevant areas to share their expertise and offer advice.
In this pilot session on "On the Road Toward Fostering Greater Self-Directed Learning in MOOCs: Research Toward Better Design Practices", Prof Curtis Bonk from Indiana University and Asst Prof Meina Zhu from Wayne State University talked about their research on self-directed learning in MOOCs from an instructor and student's perspective.
They provided rich examples of MOOCs benefitting young people in public schools as well as those in the workforce. They also detailed 20 implications for designing online learning for engagement, collaboration, interactivity and overall success.
